Tell us about your business?
I encourage people to stay active through dance fitness
KB: As an international dance teacher and performer, the #MOVEWITHKB brand was birthed from my passion to motivate, train and inspire individuals. I encourage people to stay active through dance fitness and have fun whilst doing so. I am a promoter of good health and wellness.
The inspiration behind his brand MOVEWITHKB made me smile and I’m sure you will agree after reading this. Kwabena shared that he took a trip to Ghana 5 years ago, when he returned to the UK, he knew he had to do more.
KB: I was out on the beach for New Year’s Day with family and friends. I was dancing and enjoying myself as I do, then a large crowd formed around me (these were tourists and GH locals). They asked me to show them some dance moves and so I began teaching them. After returning back to the UK. I created my brand MOVEWITHKB where the aim was to teach people to dance.
The rest was history…
You know you’re a good dancer when you see a crowd of people surrounding you! However, it hasn’t always been this easy as Kwabena expressed some challenges he has faced along the way.
Sometimes I don’t get the support from people
When it comes to starting a business, it is no secret that getting your vision out across different platforms may be a challenge, especially when you do not have as much support. Nonetheless, Kwabena has a small network of close friends that encourage him which is what we all need.
I have been grafting for many years because I love what I do.
KB: When it comes to achieving certain goals and targets, I am very disciplined, this helps me to keep going along with a positive mind.
I know my why which is the reason I do what I do.
What interests you about your Ghanaian Heritage?
Our people are warm spirited
KB: I just love the culture. It’s so warm and vibrant and our people are warm spirited. The food is fantastic!!! Since my metabolism is quick I definitely enjoy as much as I can especially when I visit Ghana.
Many of us in the diaspora have many goals that giving back to our homeland, Ghana in some way. Kwabena already worked towards this by working with a charity @ncvoghana. Collectively, they raised funds for children battling with cancer which was donated to Korle Bu teaching hospital, in Accra. As well as this the team at MOVEWITHKB/Afro – Motion have also been working with an orphanage called Motherly Love Foundation which has been on going for two years.
We like to end Conversations with GhanaMade by getting a glimpse into what the future looks like for our interviewee’s.
Where do you see your business in the next 5 years?
KB: I see the MovewithKB/AfroMotion brand going global from working with various organisations worldwide. In the next 5 years I would also like to have a bigger team of instructors we can to work in various institutions such as schools, in locations outside of the UK.
Follow KwabenaKB and keep updated with his amazing work. He is currently doing virtual dance fitness sessions so you should definitely check it out seeing as the gyms are still closed! Thank me later lol
