Ama K. Abebrese is an award-winning actress, TV Presenter and Producer. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts and Drama from St Mary’s University, Twickenham.
In 2011, she won ‘Best Actress in a Lead Role’ at the ‘Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA)’ for her stellar performance in ‘Sinking Sands.
Her film credits include ‘Ties that Bind’, ‘The Cursed Ones’, the Netflix movie ‘Beasts of No Nation’, and Ghana’s first Oscar selection for The Best International Feature Film, ‘Azali’. Aside from starring in the movie ‘Double-Cross’, which won two awards for Best Cinematography and Best Hair and Make-Up at the 2015 Ghana Movie Awards, Ama K. actually co-produced it as well.
She is the narrator and producer of the 2018 film ‘The Burial of Kojo’, which was distributed by Netflix. Her TV presenting career spans over 20 years on TV in the UK and on Ghanaian Television. She is a former Head of Own Productions and Executive Producer at Viasat 1.
Ama K. has also served as Dark & Lovely’s brand ambassador for Ghana. Alongside her career in the media, she also launched the ‘Say NO To Skin Bleaching Campaign’ in 2014 and is the founder of ‘I Love My Natural Skin Tone,’ both of which being initiatives started to enable women to visualise and appreciate the beauty in the variation of their skin tones. She is also an icon for Child Safety alongside musician Dr. Cryme for the charity Safe Child Ghana, an organisation aimed at keeping children out of harm’s way in the context of road safety awareness.
