Michaela Coel is a British-Ghanaian actress, performing artist, and poet most popularly known for her television series Chewing Gum which she created and starred in. As a music artist she released a number of albums and an EP, the latter being “22 May”. Her strong talents for the arts led her to enroll and graduate from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has starred in a number of films and television productions such as Top Boy, Star Wars, Black Mirror, and The Aliens.

Recently, Michaela has created a new HBO sitcom called “I May Destroy You”, a television series focusing on sexual assault. The sitcom was inspired by her own experience of being sexually assaulted. Michaela has often been nominated for a number of awards throughout her career, ranking among them she was awarded a BAFTA in 2016.
